Emergency Medicine
Our Emergency Department (ED) handles all medical emergencies with professional, compassionate care. The breadth of our up-to-date emergency services includes the immediate delivery of clot-busting medication for heart attacks and strokes, and the use of state-of-the-art medical imaging for rapid diagnosis.
The QMC ED has a strong affiliation with Boston Medical Center, a nationally recognized trauma center. If certain kinds of surgery are required, patients can be quickly transferred to BMC.
The ED staff includes:
- Doctors who are trained in emergency medicine and are board-certified (or board-qualified) by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Many of QMC's ED doctors serve as faculty at the Boston University School of Medicine
- Emergency nurses with extensive experience in critical and emergency care for adults and children. Specialty certifications include: Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation and the Trauma Nurse Core course. Many nurses are members of the Emergency Nurse's Association and Crisis Prevention & Intervention
- Talented medical residents from Boston Medical Center
- A Fast Track service offering expedited, urgent walk-in care for patients with more minor health problems, illnesses or injuries
- Advanced information technology designed to offer enhanced care and safety and improved efficiency for patients. This technology, more commonly seen in larger, tertiary medical centers, includes a computerized patient-tracking program, wireless network of computer workstations, automated medication-dispensing devices and Physician Order Management software. This means that despite all the data collected through this technology, the ED at Quincy Medical Staff is nearly paperless and was one of the first in the state to apply this technology in its ED.
